Lest We Forget- Birdsong Wedding

If there are two things I love its wedding planning and literature so today I am merging the two with a Birdsong inspired post In honour of the 100 year anniversary of the first world war. To anybody who is interested in the first world war I implore you read Sebastian Faulks’ ambitious novel Birdsong. Honestly I did find it a little slow and tiring to begin with but I’m glad I prevailed because once it got going it actually moved me to tears. There is an obvious presence of romance and physical desire but for me it is the portrayal of the brutality of war which makes this book so powerful.

Set in France in the early 1900s  it evokes the juxtaposition of the picturesque and the vicious. The latter being not so good for a wedding I instead offer you a gentle nod toward the military.
