Today Dylan took part in Milton Keynes Art Centre’s pottery workshop and was buzzing with excitement from the word go. We were all booked up to attend Wednesday’s second instalment of Nature workshops but unfortunately due to only Dylan being signed up the class was cancelled and we were instead offered a place at the pinch pot creations class. Although he was initially disappointed, it ended up being a blessing as Dylan had a fantastic time. The class was led by local craftsman Andrew MacDermott who creates gorgeous Icelandic inspired ceramics, Andy was entertaining and very encouraging of the kids creativity.
The class started with newcomers learning how to create pinch pots as a base for their artwork but Dylan soon decided that he wanted to use up a crazy amount of clay to create whatever popped into his head, including a bowl of noodles and a teapot. Prior to today Dylan’s only experience of pottery was from Peppa Pig so a teapot like Mrs Zebra’s was high on his list of priorities.
If anyone is interested in attending any of the wonderful classes or simply seeing what the centre has to offer then come along to their free spring exhibition this Saturday. There will be a preview of Hannah Brown’s nature inspired sculptures entitled The Winter Girls, as well as the free Saturday children’s workshop, a woodwork workshop demonstration, Art Social with Debi-Sara Wilkinson and a honey tasting and look into the onsite hives.
